On the Passing of Joan Fontaine
Reports came in last evening that another Hollywood legend has passed. Joan Fontaine was born in October 1917 as Joan de Beauvoir de Havilland, the younger sister of Olivia de Havilland, a legendary actress in her own right who died only a few years prior is still alive and kicking.*

With a film career that spanned the 1930s to the 1960s, she'll best be remembered for a pair of extraordinary performances she gave under the direction of Alfred Hitchock. 1940's Rebecca brought her first Oscar nomination, and she would win the year later for her iconic turn in Suspicion.

In 1952 she appeared in the epic Ivanhoe, cast beside Robert Taylor and Elizabeth Taylor in the retelling of the Walter Scott tale. Her last credited appearance was the Hammer horror film The Witches.

Fontaine lived to the age of 96.

* Updated: As commenter Edmund Yeo points out, Ms. de Havilland is still alive. We regret the error.
