First Look At Prabhu Deva's R... RAJKUMAR Looks Like Every Other Bollywood Action Film
Prabhu Deva is one of India's most prolific and uneven talents both in front of and behind the camera, and the trailer for his latest film, R... Rajkumar, doesn't do much to tilt the balance to the positive side.

I've gushed about the man as dancer and director on numerous occasions on this site, but the more I see from him, the more I realize that the scope of his talents appears to be unfortunately very narrow. R... Rajkumar (renamed from Rambo Rajkumar for fear of litigation), is his latest action masala film, following up on similar efforts Wanted and Rowdy Rathore. In fact, so similar, that it's difficult to distinguish between them in many cases. Apart from the changing male leads, Shahid Kapoor this time around, not much is different. Even the female lead from Rowdy Rathore, Sonakshi Sinha, is back this time around.

In between his alliterative RR directorial efforts, Prabhu Deva has turned in a solid leading performance in Bollywood Step-Up clone Any Body Can Dance and directed a mediocre romance film in Ramaiya Vastavaiya, a remake of his own Telugu hit, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana. He's really been all over the place, and this trailer is nothing to get excited about, however, it's going to be a major release in December, so here we are.

Check out the synopsis and trailer below, R... Rajkumar opens on December 6th.

R Rajkumar is the story of a young man without a purpose in life named Rajkumar (Shahid Kapoor). A rebel without a cause, he leads a carefree life and works for a drug baron named Shivraj (Sonu Sood). His life changes as one day he sees Chanda (Sonakshi Sinha), the epitome of beauty.

Rajkumar falls head over heels in love with Chanda without knowing that she is the niece of Parmar who he has been ordered to kill by his Boss Shivraj. After some wooing Chanda succumbs to Rajkumar's charm and falls in love with him.

Will Rajkumar manage to destroy the huge drug cartel and get Chanda??

And last but not the least, will Rajkumar live to tell the tale?

Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana is Telugu not Tamil.
Although it was remade into Tamil as Something something unnakum ennakum.

Fixed. Thanks.

And yes, the trend of retro-masala, '80s style films is getting old.

not just 80s.

up till 2000s,Indian style films were normal.

Then,Bollywood, started marketing towards NRI audience w/ western type of story lines (affairs, action, sex comedies etc.) and things changed.
They increased glamour, production values and obviously story content.

now they've jumped on what they ,erroneously, call the 'southern' style of films. In fact it's not specific to north OR south;it's just an 'Indian' style of film.

If anything the fact that these movies are so popular is a testament to their never ending/pan-indian appeal.

I guess film makers are realising there's no need to get modern, they can have same shitty films and make as much money.
