47 RONIN: Watch The New Trailer
Let's just call it what it is: Upcoming Keanu Reeves star vehicle 47 Ronin is quite possibly one of the costliest B-movies ever made. While Universal Pictures may have set out to make a high concept, revisionist epic it is becoming increasingly clear that what they've ended up with is pulpy in the extreme, filled with over the top villains, paperback fantasy wish fulfillment, and cliche upon cliche ramped up to a thousand. And, honestly, if you take it as what it increasingly appears to actually be rather than what it was originally supposed to be, it actually looks quite fun.

After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people.  Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)--a half-breed they once rejected--as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors.
Call it Clash Of The Titans meets the visual style of Sucker Punch with all of it set in Japan and ... oh, wait. I kind of hated both of those movies. Check the new 47 Ronin trailer below and tell us if you think it'll be better or worse than those two flicks ...

More about 47 Ronin

Nice to see Rick Genest getting well-earned work, though. That's a modern world success story if I've ever heard of one: Start with a pop concept and some crazy guts, and end up on a movie poster just hundreds of incredibly painful hours later. Kudos!

It looks entertaining enough? The CGI is a bit crummy though.

Looks like most of the visual cues are culled from LORD OF THE RINGS and THE HOBBIT, to these eyes, anyway.

Much as its away from the source - There's something about about a sword weillding flick I just can't knock. Although Keanu Reeves as the Last Samurai is a stretch

The only worthy part of Sucker Punch were the visuals so it ain't bad thing to look like that movie.

Man, I hated this trailer when I first saw it, and ordinarily a fantasy spectacle would be something I'd enjoy on a popcorn level. Lousy dialogue, cheap looking CG, the pitiful missed opportunity of doing away with a genuinely exciting original premise and turning the 47 Ronin into another boring "300," basically. Lame lame lame all the way.
