Shark Attack Movies Sell Everywhere: Trailer For Bollywood's WARNING 3D
Today Eros Entertainment set free the trailer for Warning 3D, the first shark attack movie in India in quite a long time. Classic trash fans may recall the epically hilarious Jaws ripoff Aatank starring Dharmendra, but that's been nearly 20 years now (though you'd swear it was the early 80s based on the quality). The recent spate of shark attack films in the English speaking world has finally spawned an answer in India, in something that looks like a cross between Bait 3D, Open Water, and Shark Night. Impossibly pretty people on a pleasure cruise getting attacked by questionably believable CG sharks.

The film is a production from Anubhav Sinha's newish production company, Benaras MediaWorks. Sinha made his name as a director, starting out with moderate successes Dus and Cash, then moving on to the Shah Rukh Khan blockbuster Ra.One a few years ago. While the critical success of the film was dubious - for the record I really had fun with it - the financial success has allowed Sinha to branch out a bit. In addition to producing Warning 3D, his company is currently shooting one of my most anticipated films of the year, Gulaab Gang.

Gulaab Gang is a dramatization of the exploits of the similarly named Gulaabi Gang (Pink Gang) of women in India who are vigilantes against sexual violence in rural Uttar Pradesh. In addition to the remarkable subject matter, which has been covered in numerous international news publications, the film also brings together two of Bollywood's female legends in Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla, which is quite a feat in an industry that is traditionally even less kind to middle aged women than Hollywood. More on that when a trailer hits.

The trailer for Warning 3D is very light on shark action, but perhaps that's a good thing. You don't want to spoil the surprises. I'm going to keep an open mind and expect dumb, violent fun. Hopefully my thirst will be quenched when Warning 3D opens on September 27.
