Tropfest Mentors Young Filmmakers With Trop Jr Roughcut in Melbourne and Sydney
Australia's biggest short film competition, Tropfest, is no stranger to expansion. After starting in a cafe in Sydney it's since grown to become a monolithic annual Summer event and has expanded internationally to include new competitions in New Zealand and North America, as well as Tropfest Arabia, covering the Middle East and North Africa.

It's also expanded the age range of filmmakers it preaches to, introducing Trop Jr as a separate competition in 2008 for aspiring filmmakers aged 15 years and younger. Last year the brand grew even further, adding a filmmaking symposium called Roughcut to the calendar. And this year, Tropfest is launching Trop Jr Roughcut, a day-long filmmaking event aimed at inspiring and educating the next generation of Australian filmmakers.

There are two such events this year, in Melbourne and Sydney, and it's sure to grow in future. I've included the dates, venues and different line-ups below. As an added benefit the Melbourne event will be held during the Melbourne International Film Festival, so you can pop out and see a film afterwards from the festival's Next Gen program.
