The Weinstein Company To Remake Shaw Brothers Classics
In a move that is sure to further antogonise the martial arts fanboys, Film Business Asia has reported that The Weinstein Company is teaming up with Celestial Pictures to remake Shaw Brothers classics Come Drink With Me and The Avenging Eagle

Harvey Weinstein will co-produce the films with David Thwaites, based on scripts by John Fusco, all three of whom are currently working together on the Yuen Woo Ping-directed Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon II: Green Destiny. This suggests that the new versions of the King Hu and Sun Chung classics will be straight remakes (rather than reworking the stories in a modern setting, for example), but as yet there seems to be no confirmation of exactly what TWC and Celestial have in mind.

Harvey Weinstein has angered many fans of Hong Kong Cinema over the years, for retooling Stephen Chow's Shaolin Soccer, needlessly retitling Feng Xiaogang's The Banquet, or editing and renaming Peter Chan's Wu Xia, as just a few examples of his perceived crimes. If these latest efforts prove successful, however, we could be seeing this happen to a lot more of Shaw Brothers' extensive back catalogue. Celestial Pictures sold the remake rights to a number of SB films to Weinstein back in 2003.
