Ari Folman's THE CONGRESS Gets Picked Up For US Distribution
Wow, Drafthouse Films is on a roll. Robin Wright seems plenty happy in the picture above and so are we.

Director Ari Folman completely bowled us over with his (almost) fully animated documentary Waltz With Bashir. So rest assured that when he announced his next film would be an adaptation of Stanislaw Lem's 1971 novel The Futurological Congress, we pricked up our ears.

Then it became known that Ari Folman planned to mix real footage with psychedelic animation, and we saw people like Robin Wright, Harvey Keitel and Paul Giamatti appear on the cast-list. That made us very curious.

In the film version, actress Robin Wright plays an alternate version of herself who is transformed into a chemical formula, so she can be endlessly used in different films.

Folman's film The Congress is now finished, shown at Cannes, and word of mouth is VERY good. Having an absolutely kick-ass trailer (and you can click this link to watch it) makes us anticipate it even more.

The good news is: Drafthouse Films, together with Films We Like, will be distributing The Congress in the United States. Theatrical, VOD and discs are being planned. The bad news is, we'll have to wait until 2014. Grrrrr...
