Michelle Yeoh, Donnie Yen Set For CROUCHING TIGER II, Yuen Woo Ping To Direct
Where there's a will there's The Weinsteins. So goes the old Chinese saying. And their iron will has proven unstoppable once again, with The Weinstein Company powering along in its plans to follow up its 2000 international smash hit Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon with a sequel.

Based on the same source material, Wang Du Lu's Crane-Iron Pentalogy, the movie will adapt the fifth book Iron Knight, Silver Vase - with the new title announced as The Green Destiny, the name of the sword from the first movie.

Veteran martial arts choreographer Yuen Woo Ping, who designed the epic fight scenes in the first movie, will direct.

We also have the first confirmation of cast, with Michelle Yeoh set to reprise her role as Yu Shu Lien, and period martial arts stalwart Donnie Yen also cast as Silent Wolf.

As reported earlier by Twitch, Forbidden Kingdom writer John Fusco has penned the script. He was previously quoted as describing the film thus: "This introduces a new generation of star-crossed lovers, and a new series of antagonists in a battle of good and evil. It has a Knights Errant quality. There is an alternate universe in the books, a martial forest that exists alongside the real world, full of wandering sword fighters, medicine men, defrocked priests, poets, sorcerers and Shaolin renegades."

True to their showbiz form, the Weinsteins plan to hold a big press bash at Cannes this weekend to reveal further details about the film, which is set to film in March 2014.

Wow! Possibly the best news I have heard all day! Can't wait! Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was such a classic. It redifined the Martial Arts showcased in cinema. Definitely a true masterpiece!

I don't think Donnie will make this movie. He's shooting a new movie at the end of next week (May 25) for director Teddy Chen called "Last of the Best" and is slated to shoot the second part of Iceman (originally planned as a movie but eventually split into two ala Kill Bill) right after that.

This will shoot in March 2014. I just added that.

Just realized. My bad.

Wow, Yeoh and Yen, Yuen directing... Wet dream alert ! I just wish it were for something else than a Crouching Tiger sequel. Now no matter how good it might turn out to be, there will always be a measure or bad will against it.

Does this mean it will be shot in English? I sure hope not.

The fight scene with Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi was so memorable and unforgettable! Lets hope that Yuen Woo Ping can recreate that and go beyond.

Excited about Yuen directing, yet underwhelmed by Forbidden Kingdom writer, whoopz.

I love this news, except for the weinstein and american writer / financing

QinlongMay 17, 2013 12:42 PM

Is there really another Iceman 3D shoot planned ? I thought they were splitting what has already been shot in two...

tman418May 17, 2013 6:40 PM

Donnie Yen is a REALLY busy guy lately! I can't wait to see this!

Is this going to be an American/Chinese co-production now that the Weinstein's and an American script-writer are involved?

Simon de BruynMay 17, 2013 6:46 PM

Yeah it's going to be dubbed by Bradley Cooper

tman418May 17, 2013 6:51 PM

Dubbed? As in he's doing the English voice for Donnie Yen? But he speaks English, last time I checked.

Simon de BruynMay 18, 2013 10:48 AM

I was joking. :)

Bradley Cooper will dub Michelle Yeoh's lines.
