Trailer For GO GOA GONE Signals The Beginning Of Bollywood's Zombie Apocalypse
India may be the last major film territory onto which cinematic zombies have yet to be unleashed, but that's all coming to an end very soon with a virtual flood of zombie films set to hit Indian cinema screens this year. First up is Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru's undead comedy, Go Goa Gone. This film has been in the works for quite a while now and seems to be the the winner in the recent horse race to become India's first zombie film. Whether or not it's any good is, obviously, still to be seen.

Go Goa Gone
is the fifth release from star Saif Ali Khan's Illuminati Films production house. The last  was 2012's lackluster spy thriller Agent Vinod. That film was plagued by stories of a certain star/producer taking over the production and editing in what ended up being a very high profile failure both critically and financially. I've heard less in terms of meddling from this film, however, it has been in production for quite some time, which is unusual because Bollywood films typically shoot and wrap up very quickly.

There is promising news about this feature, though, and as I'm a fan of zombie films, I intend to do my best to enjoy Go Goa Gone. Director Krishna DK's previous feature, Shor in the City was very well received by critics and managed to turn a profit on a very small budget. This is very difficult to do in the heavy blockbuster culture of Indian cinema. Also, in addition to Saif Ali Khan's strange looking role of a blonde haired Russian zombie hunter, the film also features Indian comedian Vir Das, who was fantastic in Imran Khan's Delhi Belly a couple of years back. Not all is lost.

The first trailer doesn't get to the zombie action until about halfway through, but it looks like a solid comedy in any case. My major complaint, as I'm sure will be the complaint of many a horror fan, is the terrible looking CG blood. It's just atrocious, and I hope those are temp FX, but knowing Bollywood like I do, I wouldn't hold your breath. It's been a long time coming, but please, enjoy the theatrical trailer for Go Goa Gone, opening May 10th worldwide.
