Watch Out Tony Jaa & Johnny Tri Nguyen, Here's Vidyut Jamwal In The Trailer For COMMANDO - A ONE MAN ARMY
"No stunt doubles, no computer images, no strings attached"

This was the tagline that accompanied Tony Jaa's Ong Bak when it appeared on the world's radar back in 2003-2004. Since then Jaa has gone a wee bit crazy and has succumbed to wire-fu. In his stead we have fast rising Vietnamese star, Johnny Tri Nguyen, who has devastated screens with rip roaring performances in films like The Rebel and Clash. It looks like it may be time to add another name to the list of home-grown, all-natural martial arts stars, and it is India's Vidyut Jamwal.

Jamwal is a relatively new face on the scene, making his first appearance on-screen in 2011's coming of age story, Stanley Ka Dabba. However, it was in John Abraham's Force, a remake of Tamil film Kaakha Kaakha, that he made his presence known to the world at large as a potential action superstar.

In Commando - A One Man Army, Jamwal takes the lead, and holy fucking shit is he impressive. On top of being ripped beyond all reasonable limits, he moves like a goddamned cobra. Imagine a guy who looks like Michael Jai White and can do acrobatics like Jaa and Nguyen, it's crazy!

This being a Hindi film, they appear to have shoehorned a love story into the mix, so there will undoubtedly be songs and such, but fuck it, I'm excited! This looks like a proper Rambo styled vigilante flick, and I can't wait!

On a somewhat related note, I've been tracking a Telugu film called Oh My God (not related to the recent Bollywood religious comedy) starring a gentleman named Master Kamal. I have no idea about that film yet, as I've only seen stills, but it might be another one to look out for.

In the meantime, here's the ass-kicking trailer for Commando - A One Man Army, due in theaters this March

Not sure if this guy has any charisma yet, but he sure knows how to flip through the air and kick people in the face. I'm interested!

JoshJanuary 25, 2013 4:54 PM

Jaa doesn't really have any charisma either, though I probably wouldn't model my career after his. Jamwal won an award for best villain for his performance in Force last year, so he's got something going for him

jah pJanuary 25, 2013 4:56 PM

I don't see what all the hype is about?this guy doesn't possess any martial art skill set that Jai White, Scott Adkins or Tony Jaa has IMO....even for his size....

Jason GorberJanuary 25, 2013 5:09 PM

You will note that the logo looks like BATTLESHIP's. This bodes well.

mithileshJanuary 26, 2013 2:14 AM

the hype for this movie is because Its an indian movie and there are not so very good martial art flicks till today from indian movie industry....

RoshanJanuary 26, 2013 4:45 AM

He is trained martial artist.By the way,I watched this trailer during screening of Race2 today.I like his Raw Action but it seems that director is inspired by Tony Jaa ONG Bak movie.Looks like another south indian movie in bollywood where hero save heroine from Villain and they become engage in Love.

Hey Josh....

Oh My God is not a Tamil film, but a Telugu film starring Master Kamal and kriya in the lead roles.

Master kamal has 18 years of self made experience in Hongkong as a Yoga Guru with some martial arts. The film is said to be on his life. Action department is handled by Lee Chi Git, who is a well known action director of Chinese cinema and some Hollywood cinema too.

You can check the latest stills of this film here...

Thanks, fixed. Normally I'm pretty good at that stuff, but it's been hard to find much about the film so far.

XXSDSXXJanuary 26, 2013 12:30 PM

I watched that move at the end over and over lol. Too cool.

Faisal HashmiJanuary 26, 2013 1:26 PM

u r wel come :)

ElijahJanuary 26, 2013 2:24 PM

No mention of Iko Uwais in the article? Merantau was Ong Bak with with Silat instead of Muay Thai! Also... it was better.

Dave BaxterJanuary 27, 2013 5:53 PM

I don't think you watched the same trailer I just watched. Whether or not the guy has any formal MA training, he definitely can deliver the on screen action goods, including (based on what the trailer shows) plenty of complex Ong Bak style leaps, wu shu style flips, kicks, MMA takedowns and some decent looking weapons use. Don't forget neither Michelle Yeoh or Andy On had any formal training before becoming MA stars either. Who cares how one develops the skills. The point is that they have them.

I don’t see what all the hype is about either, I’ve watched the
trailer and every move Jamwal does I’ve seen before in other martial art films
by Tony Jaa, Nguyen, White, and Scott Adkins. This guy is just copying their stunts which is fine i guess since this is a Hindi disrespect.

C-SwordJanuary 28, 2013 3:33 AM

It does look quite good. Hopefully, they'll release it with english subs in theatres or blu-ray in NA.
