Utterly Mad Teaser For Khavn De La Cruz's EDSA XXX

Pinoy director Khavn De La Cruz is clearly a crazy person. With his raucous documentary Mondo Manila touring the world right now De La Cruz has a pair of other projects in the works, the first of which is poised to premiere as a work in progress as part of the Cinema One Originals series. Titled EDSA XXX: Nothing Ever Changes In The Republic Of Ever-Change, De La Cruz describes his film as a scifi black comedy rock opera and that is clearly only scraping the surface. Ready for one hell of a synopsis? Because here it comes:

"EDSA XXX" takes us on a wild ride through the ups and downs, twists and turns in the life of one man's downfall and the rise to fame of another. The present leader KULOG NEGRO (Nigger Thunder) has led the country to progress; his rallying call is championing poverty for the benefit of tourists and film festivals. But the well-meaning leader is a mere puppet in the political arena and someone has just decided that he has to go.

Thrust into the limelight as the reluctant leader of this year's revolution is TATLO MATA (Three Eyes) aka KULASPIRO KULANG-KULANG (Kulas Missing-Marbles), a street simpleton who by a strange combination of right timing, downright stupidity and the machinations of a treacherous bunch of benefactors who call themselves the HUKBALAKA (Freedom Fighters), a quartet of bald old men against freedom. He eventually finds himself catapulted to the highest position in the land. By his side is the sexy ANA MARI, the First Girlfriend, who later reveals herself to be a part-time prostitute and MARIANA MARIANO, full-time leader of a clandestine resistance movement of mermaids called RIZAL UNDERGROUND, named after the national hero. This amazonian movement is dedicated to foiling the plans of the Hukbalaka who have been controlling every President of Ek-Ek-Ek since time immemorial. But it's not an easy thing to do as Tatlo Mata encounters the absurdest characters in the land including TATLONG BALUT (The Duck-Egg Trio), leaders of the largest religious cult in Ek-Ek-Ek; the sinister Hukbalaka and their BAYONG BRIGADE (Basketbag Brigade), thugs-for-hire and experts at nunchuck martial arts. But before everything else, poor Tatlo Mata must find out where he got that Third Eye stuck on his forehead...

"EDSA XXX" mixes into one steamy brew of a film elements of black comedy, a bit of singing, and strange plot twists straight from the pages of "The Godfather." And by the time the closing credits roll, viewers are sure to find themselves humming the catchy tunes, laughing their guts out, and sadly shaking their heads all at the same time.
