Scream Factory Announces Super Six Horror Blus For 2013! DAY OF THE DEAD, LIFEFORCE, THE BURNING, THE FOG, THE HOWLING, & NIGHT OF THE COMET!
Just when you thought Scream Factory couldn't get any cooler, they used the Horrorhound Weekend in Indianapolis to announce six of their biggest acquisitions yet!  Only one of these releases has had a Blu-ray release so far, and the rest are more than deserving of the honor. The Fog is one of Carpenter's underrated best, The Burning features the slasher debut of George Costanza, The Howling is probably the second best modern werewolf film out there, Lifeforce is Tobe Hooper's ode to space vampires and Mathilda May's boobs, Night of the Comet is one of the '80s finest horror-comedies, and I guess there's always more to say about George Romero's Day of the Dead.

Scream Factory adds these releases to the already stellar line-up they've been cultivating since their debut in September. We have already seen Halloween II and Halloween III, They Live, Terror Train, & The Funhouse, and there are close to a dozen coming soon. This looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship! Cover art and specs will follow in the new year, but this is one hell of a tease. Here's the official notice from Scream Factory's Facebook page.
The wait is over! We can now officially reveal some really cool and beloved horror classics from the 80s that will be coming from the "Factory" in 2013:

- THE FOG (1980): John Carpenter's seaside ghostly revenge flick with Adrienne Barbeau and Jamie Lee Curtis. New extras are in the works! First time on Blu-ray

- THE BURNING (1981): Summer Camp. Garden shears. Tom Savini effects. Need we say more? First time on Blu-ray

- THE HOWLING (1981): Joe Dante's ultimate werewolf pic with superb Rob Bottin effects. First time on Blu-ray.

- LIFEFORCE (1985): Tobe Hooper's space vampires and light-show extravaganza finally gets its first ever anamorphic widescreen presentation! First time on Blu-ray.

- NIGHT OF THE COMET (1984): Shopping and zombies highlight this post-Doomsday cult classic. First time on Blu-ray.

- DAY OF THE DEAD (1985): George Romero's splattery undead classic gets a new collector's edition with new extras.

More details on all of these frightfests will be revealed more next year.

I've read that the negatives for Night of the Comet have long been lost (as the DVD for this release was mastered from a crappy CED--kudos to you if you know what that is.) What are they using for the source of this blu-ray transfer? I'm guessing they found a decent film print or actually found the negative?

That's probably still in the works. There's no release date yet, so I assume the hunt is on
