Mamat Khalid Brings Awesome Hair Back To The Banana Village
While we've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Malaysian director Mamat Khalid's post-apocalyptic gang epic Apokalips X for some time now it appears that the powers that be - particularly the powers overseeing the lengthy post production delays on that film - have other plans. While Apokalips X remains stalled out in post Khalid is returning to his most popular locale: the Banana Village.

A refresher for those who may not be familiar.

Khalid is a very popular writer and director in Malaysia, one who first came to our attention as a screenwriter on gorgeous Malaysian historical epic Puteri Gunung Ledang. We later fell deeply in love with his absolutely daft - and totally gorgeous - throwback to the black and white b-movie horror flicks of the fifties, When The Full Moon Rises, but his biggest success came in 2007 with scrappy, low budget zombie comedy Zombi Kampung Pisang.

Known internationally as Zombies From Banana Village, Zombi Kampung Pisang was jam packed with local humor - somewhat limiting its international appeal - but it was a massive local hit with audiences and critics alike, prompting the ghost-oriented sequel Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah in 2010. And with the sequel building on the success of the original - I personally prefer the second offering to the first by a healthy margin - Khalid is now back with round three.

Titled Husin, Mon Dan Jin Pakai Toncit it would appear that Khalid is now throwing a bit of time travel into the mix. The vintage noir influence of When The Full Moon Rises is evident in the early part of the extended promo but that gives way to the characters and locale popularized by earlier entries.
