Stay Off The Ice! New HYPOTHERMIA Trailer
Due out on VOD and DVD on October 2nd James Felix McKenney's Hypothermia is set to rip out your throat with a hefty dose of Lake Man violence! We first caught wind of this frozen creature from beneath the ice back when we got out hands on a sales reel from Cannes.

Ray Pelletier (Michael Rooker, The Walking Dead, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Slither) is looking forward to a quiet weekend of ice fishing with his family at the same peaceful lake they've been visiting for years. Unfortunately for the Pelletiers, the obnoxious big-city father-son duo of Steve and Stevie Cote has picked the same weekend to spend at the remote frozen spot.

The fishermen quickly notice that the fish below the thick ice aren't biting, and Ray thinks the Cotes' state-of-the-art gear, including a loud ice drill, has scared them all away. But the two families' petty squabbles are soon eclipsed by a much greater enemy: Something unnatural and ferocious is under the ice and its prey is human. Miles from civilization and with only a few inches separating them from the freezing water below, the Pelletiers and the Cotes must find a way to work together to fight the vicious creature that's out to hunt them.

We loved the brief glimpses of man-in-suit action from the sales reel and you will see more in this new trailer for the film from Glass Eye Pix and Dark Sky Films.

Slimy reptiliman & Michael Rooker? Instant classic.

Loved the trailer until that one headshot of the creature at the end. Ouch. People these days can freeze (no pun intended) clips, doesn't the marketing department realize that?

Really? I loved that part. I suspect that everyone has a personal tolerance for the unrealistic, a certain line beyond which things have just ventured too far. Some love the kind of fidgeting, weightless, airbrushed looking monsters computer programs animate for us, and others like the reticulated motion of tiny model monsters plodding around towns in forced perspective. Me, I love the look of tight latex makeup, as brightly colored and shiny as a wet balloon. The inert windshields of these eyes, the fact that you can see the seam of the headpiece along the curve of the occipital bone, these details makes this look perverse and fetishy to me--the sexy lake monster version of putting on a Captain Kirk mask and carving up teens like turkeys, a sort of PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS under the water.

Well... that certainly can be fun and I love practical effects when applied well, but this felt like a discord to me. It's hard to play up the threat as serious if it ends up looking like that. I do get that this is CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON territory but I didn't expect the monsters to be quite that similar.

Oh I definitely see where you're coming from. Hard to synch-up that flappy rubber suitmation baddie with those fleet shapes under the ice. It'll probably turn out to be a school play or something showing on TV. But I'll be disappointed if it is.

These guys in my office at DISH have been trying to talk me
into watching Hypothermia for a while now. That clip was all I needed to
convince me to put it in my Blockbuster at Home queue. I loved watching “Creature
from the Black Lagoon” when I was a little kid so I think I might get a kick
out this regardless of whether it is good or not. I even got the blu-ray
versions since it did not cost any extra. Maybe I will get to see the zipper on
the suit, lol.
