Suriya's Siamese Twin Kung Fu Romance MAATRAAN's Second Teaser Gives Us More Everything!
As the film's September 15th target release date looms, Eros International's Maatraan is kicking the promotion up a notch. In addition to scheduling the audio release function for next Wednesday, August 15th, they've also released the film's second teaser, and it's a bit more conventional than the first look.
In what has become a common refrain on my part, there is precious little plot information regarding Maatraan. All I've been able to glean is that Tamil action star, Suriya, plays conjoined twins for at least part of the film, he also appears to play those two characters separately at some point. Interestingly, both the conjoined and independent versions of Suriya seem to have action sequences, which suits me just fine.
While this latest bit of footage does give a little more action, most of it seems to focus on the more crowd pleasing aspects of the film, like the music and dancing. Any hopes of Maatraan being any kind of outside the box Tamil film have pretty much been thrown out the window. However, Suriya is undeniably charismatic, and I'm happy to watch him do whatever he aims to do on screen.
Director K.V. Anand has a pretty decent track record behind the camera. He started out as a cinematographer, including work on some of Tamil director Shankar's work like Nayak and the incredible Sivaji. More recently as a director on his own he gave us the critically acclaimed Ko, which starred mousey south Indian actor Jiiva. I'm definitely interested in how Maatraan turns out, I just hope they lean on the Siamese twin angle really hard, because that would please me to no end!
