Actor Ryan Gosling Set to Make a Monstrous Directorial Debut

Add writer/director to the list of Ryan Gosling's screen credits, because right now it looks like the mellow-as-a-Percocet actor is getting ready to teach genre loving movie-goers How To Catch A Monster. The Drive star's written a screenplay being vaguely described as a "fantasy noir", and his co-star from last years breakout crime flick, Christina Hendricks, is set to star.

There are no shortage of paranormal detective characters these days, from The Dresden Files to the Steve Nile's Criminal Macabre series character Cal McDonald (long rumored to be getting a screen treatment as well), so we'll see if Mr. Gosling brings anything new to the chopping block. His own Phantasma imprint will be producing in conjunction with Marc Platt Productions, and Bold Films who will be doling out the cash for Gosling to make his jump into the directors' chair.

Has he learned anything from working with Nicholas Winding Refn lately? Maybe Ryan has picked up a taste for the horror genre from his buddy, eh? Here's hoping for something a little more adult than the slew of YA (young adult) "horror" that has plagued domestic genre releases of late.

OK Mr. Gosling. We are watching. To paraphrase Tom ATkins in Night Of The Creeps..."Thrill me!"
