UPDATE: Talks Break Down, Jessica Biel Out Of THE WOLVERINE
[Updated at 1:56pm EST] ScreenAnarchy is now hearing that Jessica Biel is definitely out of the film. Fox is moving on to other options.

---------------------

Talk is cheap. Jessica Biel, apparently, isn't. It was just last week that we ran a report that Biel had been offered the role of Viper in James Mangold's The Wolverine. Deadline picked up on our report of the offer and quickly updated the story to say that Biel had accepted and been cast. Seems they were premature on that.

With the two sides still far apart on terms and a start to production looking, Collider reports talks have broken down and 20th Century Fox are now going out to other actresses to fill the role. We're hearing the same thing here and while Biel is not officially out of the running it is very unlikely that she will appear in the film.

It's been a busy couple days for the James Mangold directed The Wolverine. Just a couple days ago word began to circulate that Will Yun Lee, Brian Tee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Rila Fukushima and Tao Okamoto were joining the cast. That flurry of action covered the Japanese characters in the story but left some key spots to fill.

And now a big one has dropped. ScreenAnarchy has learned that Jessica Biel has been offered the role of Viper, a complex character who at one point was a peer of Logan's as well as an enemy. She was a major player in criminal organization Hydra and, in one story arc, blackmailed Logan / Wolverine into marrying her. This could be interesting.
