New French Trailer For Pascal Laugier's THE TALL MAN
Pascal Laugier, the director behind the controversial Martyrs, and the understated (and under-appreciated) House Of Voices, is out to scare us again with The Tall Man, or The Secret as this new French trailer is titled, for it's overseas release.

For my money, Laugier is potentially one of the saviors of the modern horror genre, and has shown an understanding and breadth of style within it's parameters, with both Martyrs and Voices, which are wildly different films. Now mucking around with the tried and true "boogeyman" trope, Laugier looks to be finding his true stride, with The Tall Man aka The Secret.

Keep your eyes on your local movie listings, this one is looking good. Three cheers too, for seeing The Cigarette Smoking Man himself William B. Davis pop up! Here is a quick synopsis of creepy flick, which opens in limited theatrical release Aug. 31'st, 2012.

"Cold Rock, USA - A darkness hovers upon the town. Children have gone missing over the years, leaving neither a clue nor a witness. Superstitious locals talk of The Tall Man, a legendary, mysterious dark figure who takes children away, never to be seen again.

Julia (Jessica Biel) is a nurse living in Cold Rock who doesn't believe in legends. Until one night, waking up with an eerie feeling, she goes to her son's bedroom and finds his bed empty. Rushing downstairs, she stops dead in her tracks: A huge dark figure stands in the entrance holding her son, David. Driven by pure instinct, Julia rushes after them, willing to do whatever it takes to get her son back. The chase is on and with it the quest for answers. Who is The Tall Man? What becomes of the children?"

More about The Tall Man

"Cold Rock, USA"

Instead of Castle Rock?

Looks and feels like a Stephen King adaptation.....looks entertaining though, thanks Mr Smithson. 2, 2012 12:41 PM

I appreciate the more positive assessment of Laugier's career and review of The Tall Man than have previously appeared on Twitch. Martyrs was an incredible experience, but I'm glad I didn't know much about the film beyond its reputation. So I'm going to avoid the trailer for Tall Man. Want as pure an experience as I can get. Hope to get a chance to see House of Voices soon.

This trailer didn't do much for me but I'm a believer in Laugier. For anyone who's interested in House of Voices, I'm pretty sure it's available streaming on Netflix.

Errr ... Martyrs made my Best of 2008 list. How is that not a "positive assessment"? Andrew Mack and Rodney Perkins were also very positive about it. 4, 2012 12:38 AM

Sorry Todd. I was referring specifically to a more recent review which described Martys as crashing and burning. I wasn't trying to slag everyone's opinion on the film. My mistake for being too general but that's what was stuck in my mind.
