LA Film Fest Announces Woody Allen's TO ROME WITH LOVE As Opener

The fine folks at Film Independent have announced the opening night film for Downtown's big LA Film Fest 2012 and it is a star studded affair. This year's opener is the North American premiere of Woody Allen's TO ROME WITH LOVE starring Allen, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page. Notice that is the North American premiere and not the World premiere -- which pretty much confirms the film will make it's big debut at Cannes a few weeks prior (Update: The film will actually World Premiere in Rome on April 20th -RA). Sony Pictures Classics plans to release the film in the states on June 22nd.

"I can't think of a better way to kick off this year's festival than with the original independent filmmaker himself, Woody Allen. It's a true honor for Los Angeles to host the North American premiere of To Rome With Love," said Festival Director Stephanie Allain.

The festival unspools June 14th and runs through June 24nd. ScreenAnarchy will endeavor to bring you the same high level of fest coverage you have come to expect. Stay tuned for more news as the festival draws nearer. More info from LAFF's press release follows.
