Watch Emotional Sci-Fi Animated Short KARA
Can video game cinematic/cut-scenes capture convincing emotional performance in a virtual character that will move the audience to tears? Quantic Dream, the Paris-based game development studio behind the critically acclaimed Heavy Rain has a response to this question with their animated short film Kara. While its not the studios' next video game project, it does run in realtime on the Play Station 3 from their new game engine and its uses advanced motion capture technology. Director by David Cage, the story centers on a newly assembled Android named Kara (voiced by Valorie Curry) who is discovered to have the ability to feel. The video was developed a year ago as a tech demo.

Saw it few days ago. It spreading pretty quickly. Fantastic! In just 7 minutes! What is life? I actually got kind of emotional...This´╗┐ would be such a deep storyline. :') If you like this, watch: Artificial Intelligence (2001)

Having played their game Heavy Rain, which had some really shitty writing bogging down it's lofts pretensions, I'm pretty surprised at how good this was. One thing that game did have going for it was the interactive aspect, which made for some astonishingly intense moments despite the stupid characters and awful dialogue. If they could hire some decent writers to channel their ambitious ideas then they could really do some great things.

Yes I like this short, but I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the obvious yet. This is pretty much a rip-off of Chris Cunningham's video for Bjork's "All is full of love" track off of her Homogenic album. Come on people! That video won like a bunch of awards. This short is almost exactly alike. Although I did really like the premise and the writer in me was already coming up with ideas....

The voice acting by Valorie Curry was amazing! For me, it absolutely gave "life" to the character of Kara. Of course, the CG is top notch too.

wow. Love it. quick, emotional, and visually striking. If the masses can accept this genre (outside of this very cool group of readers of course) I think NBC's new pilot Beautiful People might actually have a chance -- no, I don't work at NBC or Universal.
