Second Teaser For Wong Kar Wai's THE GRANDMASTERS Touches Down In Russia
Years after it was first announced nobody really seems to know if Wong Kar Wai's The Grandmasters is any closer to actually releasing now than it was a year ago. A notorious perfectionist prone to lengthy diversions and experiments, it does not appear that WKW has changed his methods one iota for his long-in-the-works biopic of Bruce Lee's mentor Yip Man.

The first proper teaser for the film arrived online back in July and that has now been followed by a second effort, this one coming out of Russia of all places. The focus is on the same rain-drenched fight sequence as in the first teaser but there is a significant amount of different footage in this one.

Tony Leung stars as Yip Man opposite Zhang Ziyi with fight choreography by Yuen Woo Ping. Check the new teaser below.

This just doesn't seem WKW. There's none of the style, everything seems typical action film? Focusing on something flying off a lock as he punches him through it? I don't know what I should expect though, but even Ashes of Time had masses of WKW style, even in the fight scenes?

One might have said the same thing of Zhang Yimou when he made HERO.

I honestly think that the synergistic pairing of WKW's direction with Christopher Doyle's cinematography is what made his earlier films resonate. My Blueberry Nights was mediocre in every way and this generic trailer does not look too promising. But I hope I'm wrong.....highly likely we'll find out in Cannes 2012.
