Does Brazil Have A Guy Ritchie To Call Their Own? Check The Trailer For Afonso Poyart's 2 COELHOS.
Recently released in Brazil, stylish action movie 2 Coelhos should be opening a lot of eyes to the talents of commercial director Afonso Poyart.

Poyart's feature debut is a slick, stylish, pop culture heavy, narratively fractured affair ... all elements that will surely have people comparing his debut to Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels though Poyart has very much his own approach to this sort of thing.

Take a look at the trailer below.

Afonso Poyart really try to channel the Guy Ritchie style, but the movie is just "serviceable".
The plot is full of twists, there is animation, explosions, corky thugs, geek references, but in the end you can see the seams and gimicks.
The result is Sucker Punch meets Smoking Aces.
Since in Brazil there´s mostly two main genres going on at the cinemas: big shalow comedies with tv actors and experimental art house movies, is good to see a director trying to aim at somethinhg comercial and action oriented.
Still missing horror movies down here.

The day someone writes a check for Dennison Ramahlo or Carlos Gananian to make a feature is the day Brazil gets on the horror map, big time. Those two are soooooo talented, they just need a chance to do it ...
