AFI Fest 2011 Announces Midnighters/World Cinema: HEADHUNTERS, KILL LIST, EXTRATERRESTRIAL

AFI FEST 2011 let loose the last wave of their lineup today with the announcement of their Midnight, World Cinema, Breakthrough, and Shorts programs. We've got a few highlights for you and the full list below. The fest kicks off in Hollywood on November 3rd.

Midnight
It's a tiny selection of only three films in AFI's midnight section, but they are three goodies. Ben Wheatley's Down Terrace follow-up Kill List kicks things off - a film pretty damn well loved by everyone at ScreenAnarchy (Reviews by: James Marsh | Eight Rooks | James Dennis). Panos Cosmatos's uber-trippy Beyond the Black Rainbow had everyone talking at Fantastic Fest and will surely keep the AFI crowd pondering (Reviews by Ben Umstead and James Marsh). Finally, Norwegian action comedy Headhunters by Morton Tyldum was another Fantastic Fest fave that makes its way to LA ahead of an upcoming remake from Summit (Reviews by Canfield and Kurt Halfyard).

World Cinema
The World program is considerably more packed. A few standouts include Giorgos Lanthimos's follow-up to Dogtooth Alps (Kurt's review), Jean-Baptiste Léonetti's French dystopian dreamer Carre Blanc (Todd's review), and Nacho Vigalondo's alien invasion romance Extraterrestrial (Nacho's review). Sundance audience winner Kinyarwanda by Alrick Brown and Foreign Language Oscar hopefuls A Separation (Iran - Asghar Farhadi) and The Turin Horse (Hungary - Bela Tarr) will also play.

AFI announced their Breakthrough and Shorts selections as well. Details are below. Once again, free tickets will be available to all screenings at AFI Fest beginning October 27th.
