THOR 3D COMBO PACK best watched hammered.

Kicking off superhero summer 2011 was this nifty if somewhat sparse feeling take on all things super-Norse. I liked Thor even though the 3D seemed almost superfluous (and a little muddy). In fact it's probably fair to say this isn't nearly as eye popping as a 3D tentpole flick should. Part of it is Branagh's color palette which is generally pretty earthy but the rest lies squarely with the light sucking quality of the 3D process in general. That said this combo-pack offers a 3D Bluray, regular Bluray, DVD and Digital copy of a film that does an effective job of introducing a major character in the Marvel-verse. The movies major problem was that whenever it left Asgard it became a tad flat but it did have solid characters, a decent script and was surprisingly thrilling and funny.

This is a solid audio visual treatment of the film and offers substantial extras. You get an audio commentary from director Kenneth Branagh, 7 featurettes and 11 deleted scenes. But you also get some Avengers love though not really all that much. The Road to The Avengers doesn't qualify as a featurette at less than five minutes. Better is Marvel One Shot: The Consultant which offers an mini-story involving the development of The Avengers initiative.
