The UNDERWATER LOVE Trailer Is Bubblegum Pop Perfection. With Breasts. And A Bit Of Moaning.
It is one of the strangest on-screen combinations in recent days. Shinji Imaoka - one of the acknowledged masters of 'pink' film, a subset of Japanese soft porn - recruited hugely acclaimed cinematographer Christopher Doyle - frequent collaborator of Wong Kar Wai - to shoot a sex fantasy about a young woman who falls in love with a mythical kappa, a turtle like creature with a noted fondness for cucumbers. The creature effects were provided by Tokyo Gore Police director Yoshihiro Nishimura and they had just five days to shoot it. And, oh yes, it's also a song-and-dance musical with original tunes provided by Germany's Stereo Total. The film is Underwater Love and it is fresh off its world premiere at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival.

Thirtysomething Asuka has an easy life, a job in a fish factory, and a fiancé, Taki, who's also her boss. One day, as she walks by the lake near the factory, she sees her first kappa - a legendary Japanese creature with a human form but a beak face and tortoiseshell back. She soon realizes that the kappa is her old friend from school, Aoki, who drowned when he was 17. As she hides Aoki from her fiancé and others, she must begin to decide what is most important for her.
Twitch is proud to premiere the first trailer for Underwater Love, an impossibly perky and infectious little number populated by kappa, breasts and one hell of a chipper little pop tune. I defy you to watch this without a great, big smile on your face. I also caution you against watching it at work because, you know, it's got breasts. You'll find the trailer below.
