The BLACK DYNAMITE Animated Series Gets Official

That cult hit Black Dynamite is making the move to the small screen in a new animated series to air on [adultswim] is not even remotely news here at ScreenAnarchy - we premiered the first stills from the animated series back in September - but it's still nice to see it announced officially. So here's the word:

Adult Swim Picks Up Animated Series, Black Dynamite

Animated Series Based on Critically-Acclaimed Live-Action Feature Film

Adult Swim announced today it has picked up the animated series Black Dynamite.  Based on 2009¹s critically-acclaimed feature film, Black Dynamite, the new 30-minute animated series will premiere in the spring of 2012.  The Black Dynamite animated series further chronicles the exploits of the central character, Black Dynamite, and his crew.  Under the direction of Carl Jones (The Boondocks), the series features the voice talent of Michael Jai White, Tommy Davidson, Kym Whitley and Byron Minns, all of whom starred in the feature film.

The feature film is an outrageous action comedy-spoof that follows ex-CIA agent and full-time ladies man, Black Dynamite, who¹s out to avenge the death of his brother against kung-fu masters, drug-dealing pimps and The Man.

Black Dynamite, the animated series, is being produced by Ars Nova Entertainment. Carl Jones is executive producer. Jon Steingart and Jillian Apfelbaum also serve as executive producers.  Brian Ash is co-executive producer.  Scott Sanders, Michael Jai White and Byron Minns are producers. Black Dynamite is being animated by Titmouse, Inc.

In addition to the feature film and the animated series, Ars Nova and Ape Entertainment have just released the comic book, Black Dynamite: Slave Island.  Written by Brian Ash, with drawings by Jun LoFamia and colors by JM Ringuet, Black Dynamite: Slave Island follows everyone¹s favorite blaxploitation sensation as he brings his badass brand of kung-fu to the sequential page.  Based on a story by Michael Jai White, Byron Minns and Scott Sanders, Black Dynamite uses his fists of fury to shut down a mysterious island where slavery still exists.  The 48-page comic book arrived in stores April 4.

Expect to see Black Dynamite on [adultswim] in early 2012. Check out the images below.
