NYC Happenings: Shindo At BAM, Tykwer & The Germans Come To MoMA, & Tribeca!

My head is spinning at just how much is going on in this town; my nerves are wracked, and I've seen barely a handful of films from these events. So, what have we got on the menu, boys and girls?

From Friday, April 22nd to Thursday, April 28th BAMcinematek and Benichio Del Toro will be hosting the U.S. theatrical premiere of Kaneto Shindo's seminal work, Children Of Hiroshima. It's a new 35mm print and in 'Scope. One of his best known works, The Naked Island will be running along side for the week as well. But that is just the icing on the cake. From the 28th 'til May 5th there will be screenings of Onibaba, The Ditch, and Live Today! Die Tomorrow among others. Full schedule is right here.

Over at MoMA, they're running their annual Kino!: New Films from Germany from April 27th until May 2nd. Kicking that off is Tom Tykwer's first German-language film in 10 years Drei (Three). And last, but certainly not least, NYC been's all a buzz since the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival is just around the corner. Things tee-off Wednesday night, the 20th with Cameron Crowe's doc on Elton John and Leon Russel, The Union. Things keep going 'til May 1st, and the more Twitchy-fare includes the Israeli horror film, Rabies, Canandian Sci-fier Beyond The Black Rainbow, and the Christopher Doyle lensed Pink Musical Underwater Love. Peter Gutierrez and I will be throwing some reviews and such from the fest your way in the coming days. So in the meantime here is the full lineup.
