Woody Allen's MIDNIGHT IN PARIS To Open Cannes 2011
It really wasn't all that long ago that it appeared Woody Allen was done. His personal life had turned him into tabloid fodder and his output through the early 2000's consisted of a non-stop string of flops. 2005's Match Point seemed to announce that he had once again found his game, however, he built on that with successive efforts and now he's back on top of the heap with word that his upcoming Midnight in Paris has been selected to open Cannes 2011.

I've run hot and cold on Allen throughout his career, finding him prone from time to time to retreat into his nervous tics instead of actually writing proper characters or stories. But when Allen's on he's really on and his best stuff makes it very, very clear that he must be considered one of the greatest American film makers in history. So while he's disappointed me before I have hopes for this. Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, Owen Wilson, Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody and Michael Sheen star.
