John Woo Producing An English Language, 3D Remake Of THE KILLER
[Twitch HQ up and moved over the weekend and the continuing work getting organized again meant I got to this one a day late but such is life ...]

I reckon that there's about a five percent chance that this could be awesome, wildly over the top and kinetic stuff. This, of course, means that the remaining ninety five percent of me is terrified.

The Killer is, in my opinion, John Woo's finest work and one of the greatest pieces of action cinema the world has ever produced. Yes, there are those who prefer Woo's Hard Boiled which is an opinion I respect but have never shared. And now he's making it again.

There have been rumors of a Killer remake for a good long while now and I guess last year's Korean remake of Woo's A Better Tomorrow has given the project enough oomph to get over the top. Here's what we know.

It will be an English language feature, produced by Woo and his long time partner Terence Chang. Directing will be John H Lee with Korean star Jung Woo-Sung taking on the role played by Chow Yun Fat in the original.

This will be Jung's English language debut and he seems an interesting choice. In strong material he can be fantastic - see Musa The Warrior or The Good The Bad And The Weird for proof of that - but when the material is weak he has never proven himself as someone capable of putting a production on his shoulders and carrying it.

Beyond casting, though, the big issue for most will be this: It will be in 3D. Which I could conceivably see as being quite fun if they use it to mess with perspective and depth of field as the killer focuses in on his targets but trying to mimic Woo's signature hyper-kinetic action in 3D could be migraine inducing ...
