Dazzling Trailer For Spanish SciFi Animated Short ROSA
Who says Japan has a lock on cyberpunk animation? Barcelona based animator Jesus Orellana has just wrapped production on his 8+ minute animated short Rosa and I can hear the clamor for a feature version beginning already.

In the near future, humanity has disappeared leaving behind a large megalopolis devoid of natural life. From the destruction awakes ROSA, a robot part of the KERNEL project, mankind's latest attempt on restoring earth's ecosystem with the recovery of long-extinct plant species.

Wandering among the ruins of the lifeless city, Rosa will soon discover that she is not the only part of Kernel that has awaken.

The teaser for this is brief but absolutely fantastic. Without the backing of any of the major players Orellana has created something here that should make fans of Square Enix, the Appleseed revival films and Ghost In The Shell sit up and take notice. Check it below.

I am such a sucker for neo-victorian sci-fi aesthetics... Can someone less biased tell me if it's shit or not? :)

Yeah, the trailer reminded me of Appleseed!

As a proof of concept reel it will probably garner more than a few investors...

Usually constant slow mo CG annoys me, but this looks pretty nice. Takes too many cues from video games cinematics but definitely has a nice style! Please don't make 90% or more of the action in slow-mo ...please?

Looks like a colour version of "Blame!", by Tsutomu Nihei.

Looks like a lot of picking and plucking from Advent Children. Might as well call it an Homage.

But the animation looks pretty nice.
