When Julio Médem arrived on the arthouse film circuit with Vacas (Cows) in 1991, the Basque country director marked himself out with a surreal, political and not exactly easy to access debut. Since then he's perhaps best known for his equally dreamlike erotic drama Sex and Lucia (2001).
Now he returns to the bedroom with Room In Rome, a character-driven story of sexual discovery that goes something like this...
"Room in Rome focuses entirely on the experiences of two protagonists. Like Medem's previous films, it is an exploration of desire. Two young women, Alba and Natasha, meet in Rome and share an intense night together, full of secrets and physical passion. Night and day, over a period of twelve hours, the two women unravel their lives. The next morning they go their separate ways and back to their respective partners, always to remember that magical night."
