Neo Western RED HILL Gets Rock N Roll Trailer!
In terms of proving he can't be easily typecast, Ryan Kwanten has had a very good week. His boutique superhero movie Griff the Invisible was selected for the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival and the trailer for his latest film, modern Aussie western Red Hill has also been unleashed.

In addition to True Blood's Kwanten in the leading role, Red Hill stars Claire van der Boom, plus a rogue's gallery of tough grit Aussie actors led by Steve Bisley and Tom E. Lewis. Here's the synopsis:
Stressed out police officer Shane Cooper (Kwanten) relocates to the dusty farming village of Red Hill with his pregnant wife, Alice, to start a family. But when news of a prison break sends the local law enforcement officers into a panic, Shane's first day on duty rapidly turns into a nightmare. For Jimmy Conway, a convicted murderer serving life imprisonment busts out of jail and heads to the sleepy settlement seeking bloody revenge. Caught in the middle of the terrifying confrontation, Shane is forced to take the law into his own hands in order to survive.
Red Hill has already played Berlin, Melbourne, Sydney, Edinburgh, with Fantastic Fest and Chicago coming up, with more festivals to follow.

I was lucky enough to see the film at the Melbourne International Film Festival and chat with its director, writer, producer, and editor Patrick Hughes and discover the film is the first in of a planned high plains trilogy -- dreamed up during the various advertising jobs he has shot in the U.S. and Mexico over the past few years.

Given the film is slated for a U.S. release in November ahead of its Australian release in December, I think we'll be hearing much more about Hughes, his future plans and Red Hill in the coming months.

For now, check out the new trailer from Sony Pictures below.
