Love Stories Are A Little Different In Finland. Prepare For A LAPLAND ODYSSEY!
Things are a bit different in Finland. In a typical Hollywood romantic comedy it's all wining and dining and the occasional misunderstanding. In Dome Karukoski's Lapland Odyssey, however, it's a quest for a free TV cable box that leads to naked machine gunning and angry reindeer. Yes, I am amused.

Lapland Odyssey is a comedy about Janne, a man from Lapland in northern Finland, a man who has made a career out of living on welfare. One Saturday evening he goes with his friends to find a digital TV terminal so that Inari, his common-law wife, wouldn´t move south. Inari is sick and tired of Janne´s indolence even in this matter. Janne hasn´t gotten them a digibox even though Inari has given him the money for it.

Janne hasn´t bought them a digibox, because he´s embarrassed that he didn´t have the money for it in the first place, as a good man should. Janne´s vicious circle is caused by him being a genius at avoiding all possible challenges, because he is very afraid of failure. The reason he´s so afraid of failure is because he has no experience with success.

On their way to the city of Rovaniemi, Janne and his friends face many challenges, obstacles and temptations. They learn that they need to be daring to the very end. There´s no room to give into bitterness. The most important thing isn´t success or even that which they are striving for, but rather the journey, which in itself is also a sort of objective.

The Finnish trailer for this one has just arrived and can be found below.
