Good Writer. Good Director. Good Remake? Alex Garland To Script LOGAN'S RUN.
I no longer have any bad feelings whatsoever about Bryan Singer departing the upcoming Logan's Run remake. No particular slight on Singer but I think the duo attached now is far, far more interesting.

We learned a while back that Ridley Scott protege Carl Erik Rinsch - the man behind that fantastic short film The Gift - had been handed the directing reins and now he has been joined by Alex Garland.

Garland, of course, is best known thanks to his long standing connection to Danny Boyle, who he wrote The Beach, 28 Days Later and Sunshine for. Which, I think we can agree, is a trio of pretty damn good scripts not afraid to ask big questions and challenge their audience a bit. And as good a script writer as Garland is, I actually think he's an even better novelist and hasn't really shown what he's fully capable of on screen yet. And Logan's Run is exactly the sort of world that plays to his strengths particularly if - and I think this will probably be the case - they approach it more as a fresh adaptation of the source novel and less as a remake of the original film.

Coinicidentally, I just broke out my BluRay copy of Logan a couple weeks ago and while it's certainly not without its camp element, this is a film and a concept with some absolutely stellar and completely current elements to it. With a firm hand and a strong script, this could be something exceptional.
