Sean Bean and The Plague! A trailer for Christopher Smith's BLACK DEATH
Christopher Smith has his fans round here - I for one loved what he did with Triangle, a career high from last year. So the prospect of him teaming up with Sean Bean to depict the horrors of a medieval plague in Black Death is something to be relished indeed.

"In a plague-ridden medieval England, Osmund (Eddie Redmayne), a young monk, is charged in leading the fearsome knight Ulrich (Sean Bean), and his group of mercenaries to a remote village where the inhabitants are unaffected by the deadly pestilence. Their quest is to hunt down a necromancer - someone able to bring the dead back to life.

Their journey is long and brutal; encountering deadly bandits, vicious witch-burnings and their own impeding sense of doom. Though it's upon entering the village that their true horror begins..."

Bean looks perfectly cast as the lead in a grim, filthy trip into a horrendous period of history. It should make an interesting counterpoint to fellow Brit Neil Marshall's current historical action pic, Centurion.

And any trailer that ends with "I'll slice you open!" has got to be worth a look...

Black Death is at UK cinemas from 28th May 2010.

Oh yes...this looks great.

Love Sean Bean, and he is looking quite Boromir here. How can you go wrong?

Cheers

That does look good and I'm 2 for 2 with Smith. I loved Severance and Triangle was one of the best pitch black, Twilight Zone like flics I've seen in a long time so this one gets my attention. It also looks like it would be a good counterpoint to Season Of The Witch as well. If you like films set in ancient and medieval europe looks like the residual effects of LOTR are still paying off.

It'd be awesome if the secret of why the village was plague free turned out to be that they just had a lot of cats to eat rats.

It's started to remind a little of Witchfinder General. In a good way.

Christopher Smith is getting better with each film. Creep sucked but had a cool concept, Severance was a great black comedy, Triangle was very cool... but . Black Death looks really good from the trailer. Will check this out
