So. Apparently when Toho announced that they were retiring Godzilla and sent him off into the sunset in the mass-monster madness that was Ryuhei Kitamura's take on the classic franchise, what they REALLY meant was that they weren't going to make any more Godzilla films themselves but that if Hollywood wanted to back a big truck full of money into their parking lot, they'd be happy to listen to whatever Hollywood had to say.

There is now one more truck full of money in Japan.

Legendary Pictures has officially announced that Godzilla is returning to US shores. No director yet but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are both involved in the producing group.

Please, everyone, learn from the mistakes made by the last American Godzilla picture.  You know. The one people hoped would be the LAST American Godzilla picture.

They better let Toho have a say in this and not get the attitude that America can make the best Godzilla. I say they need to work together to make the best movie possible. It can be done. We need a monster battle. Respect the source material.

I demand a T-Pain rap song on the soundtrack. Auto-tuned Godzilla roar yeow!

kidlazarusMarch 29, 2010 8:04 PM
It has auto-tune and abuse of inanimate objects.

Roy "remake every asian movie ever made" Lee is involved in this, that's all you need to know. It's gonna suck.

I for one welcome this US version. The last few Japanese G films have been quite poor, Shusuke Kaneko's GMK being the last good one.
And I nominate Steve Wang to design the new Godzilla, dude knows how to make proper monsters and loves all things Japanese.

Roy Lee is the death of this film.

ToryMarch 30, 2010 10:27 AM

Hell yes to Steve Wang! I love that guy. And this kind of news never bothers me. If it looks like it'll suck, I'll ignore it. If it looks aweomse, I'll give it a look. Simple as that.

For me, GODZILLA VS HEDORAH director Yoshimitsu Banno's involvement as a producer more than makes up for Roy Lee.

Basically, a fun movie, something hollywood has no idea of how to do anymore.
