Back in October word began to circulate about a supposed German produced sequel to Paul Verhoeven's Showgirls. At that time referred to as Showgirls: The Story of Hope the claim was that director Marc Vorlander has secured twenty five million dollars in investment and was building a story around one of the secondary characters from the original film with the original actress attached.
But the thing is that the promo video announcing the project was laughably incompetent and the actress named claimed to not know anything at all about the project, leading to widespread calls of hoax.
Well, about a week ago a lengthy trailer - more of a demo reel, really - for the film appeared on the official site. And while there is certainly a lot of footage there the quality is so incredibly trashy that the hoax conversation isn't going to go away any time soon.
A memo to Marc Vorlander: If you really did secure twenty five million dollars to make this film and this is what you produced with that money then you are quite possibly the worst director on the face of the planet. Stop making movies immediately. If that dollar value is something you pulled out of the air to convince people that you are a serious film maker and this is a legitimate project then you need to stop doing that right away, too, because it's having exactly the opposite effect. If, however, this all IS an elaborate hoax, then good on you, sir. Because you are a genius.
Find the trailer below accompanied by the only previous directorial effort from Vorlander, a five minute short titled The Waiting Chamber. And be warned: The Showgirls footage is WILDLY inappropriate for any sort of workplace context. Unless you work in a strip club. Then it's okay.
