Baltasar takes you to the Deep.
Baltasar Kormakur continues to amass projects to tackle, his remake of of his own starring vehicle Reykjavik Rotterdam is bound before the cameras soon with Mark Walberg in the lead. His Viking epic is waiting at the starting lines, and might be going head to head with Mel Gibson's own Viking project. But it seems that the film he will tackle fairly soon is an adaption of a one man play by Jon Atli Jonasson called The Deep which is based on the experience Gudlaugur Fridthorsson who swam nearly 4 miles in over 5 hours from his sinking ship to the Vestmann Islands in the dead of winter in 1984.
Ingvar E Sigurdson of Jar City fame was the star of the play but for the film version Baltasar has chosen Olfur Darri Olafsson to portray the young man (only 22 years old at the time) who miraculously made it to shore while his friends drowned trying the same.
It's not entirely known when filming gets going but Baltasar is looking at some potential shooting locations with a good water tank to film in.
