Weta Digital Backing New 3D JOURNEY TO THE WEST
The sheer volume of projects based on classic Chinese novel Journey to the West right now is more than a little bit dizzying and here's another to keep an eye on.
A project launched by Hong Kong's Filmko - though with a $30 million budget it's a sure thing they're looking to bring other partners on - Monkey King: Wreaking Havoc in Heavenly Palace is in the early stages of pre-production. The script is ready, location scouting is in the works and - here's the bit that will interest fans in the west - Weta Digital is apparently on board to handle the effects. A 3D production of one of the all time classic martial arts fantasy stories with effects by one of the premiere digital companies in the world today? Yeah, I'll watch that.
