For fans of large scale martial arts film, Tsui Hark's Detective Dee is awaited with a mix of excitement and trepidation. Excitement because this is a truly classic character, perfectly suited to the big screen, executed on a simply massive scale. Trepidation because we've been down the epic road with Tsui in the recent past with very mixed results.
Well, producers Huayi Brothers are showing a lengthy reel from the film made up of a mixture of raw footage, interviews, and polished work and the results are truly something to behold. Andy Lau looks perfect in the role and the sheer scope of this thing is staggering. Absolutely gorgeous.
