VENICE FILM FESTIVAL 2009: Todd's Thoughts On THE HORDE
Great concept.  Great promo materials.  But, good lord, The Horde might just be the worst film I've seen all year.  Bad writing, worse acting, a massive over-reliance on film speed up and dropped frames in the edit to make it feel exciting, constant continuity errors, 'heroes' too stupid to realize that doing the exact same things that have already failed multiple times will only lead to more failure, no sense of location, shoddy art design, iffy effects, you name it ... not only is there not a single decent character in this film there's not even a single decent stereotype.

I hearby publicly apologize for contributing in any way, shape or form to the anticipation surrounding this film.  Yech.

I thought this looked really poor from the trailer, like a retread of "Junk". What made Inside and Martyrs so great is how french they feel. This just looks like wannabe american action.

Todd, I'm 100% with you on this one... massively disappointing and really pretty hopeless in every respect. The biggest letdown of Frightfest (that I saw) and a shambles to say the least with a terrible over reliance on CGI gore. There are some set pieces supposed to wow you but they're totally inept and, as you say, no character development whatsoever. As with most films where there are bad guys bickering with other bad guys (both highly unlikeable), you just don't care and so the action better make up for it. But it doesn't. The most boring zombie/crazy movie in memory...
