Video Player All Time Top Ten! No. 7: STOIC

[Twitch is undergoing some behind the scenes tire kicking and bolt-tightening over the next few days, work that may slow down the regular flow of new information a little bit. So, while that's going on we'll be presenting a series of retro-reposts, pulling forward the all time top ten videos since we moved to our current video system. This post originally appeared June 5.]

Ever find yourself wondering whatever happened to one-time golden child Edward Furlong? Wonder no more - he's starring in Uwe Boll's real-life prison drama Stoic.

In the claustrophobic confines of a jail cell, an inmate is discovered hanged. In the back-and-forth between the interrogation of his cellmates and the dehumanizing events that led to his death, the horrific truth about what really transpired reveals the duplicitous side of human nature.

Trailer below the break.

oh man here it comes...

But honestly that didn't look half bad-But it didn't look great either.

FBMachineJune 6, 2009 4:19 AM

Surprisingly, it doesn't scream out "terrible". It just whispers it in your ear.
I'm only a little ashamed to admit I laughed a few times watching Uwe's tasteless and offensive Postal. Probably more because I liked the lead guy when he was on the show Titus.

Uwe's other movies though? Wow. Not so bad they're funny, so bad they put me to sleep. This is probably more of the same.

Furlong and Boll,a match made in hell...

I did like Postal though

great to see people with their own opinions about Boll..not at all being sheep & cutting the dude down because he's doing what they never will...

Collin ArmstrongJune 6, 2009 2:45 PM

He's been on a not-entirely-shit streak for this three movies now (POSTAL, SEED, TUNNEL RATS...). Looks to continue here. And I always love a prison drama.

Don't know where TUNNEL RATS is either - it's pretty decent, at least in terms of DTV action.

Here's a link to download the Uwe documentary:

I'd have to admit that he's made many more films than I have.
Probably a better boxer, too.

"great to see people with their own opinions about Boll..not at all being sheep & cutting the dude down because he’s doing what they never will…"

Awful films? Well, he beat me right there, can't argue that.

Collin ArmstrongJune 9, 2009 4:03 AM

Swarez is right about the loophole - and people fund films in similar fashion around the globe. Right now there's a lot of grant money for film projects with social components available stateside, precisely because the people donating money don't want it in their bank account where it will be taxed. They want to write it off as a loss (and generally film IS a money-losing business - though there are exceptions, like Boll).

JahsoldierJune 9, 2009 7:17 AM

My bad then :)

Just wish I knew how his films made money.

Collin ArmstrongJune 9, 2009 5:25 PM

Yeah, it's a great business model... that unfortunately exploits audience weaknesses when it comes to what they decide to take home from the video store on a given night. Although what business isn't about exploitation in some respect? Oy vey. This topic is getting depressing...

Did anyone else immediately think: Miike's Big Bang Love (minus any semblance of Art or nuance of course) while watching this?

SwarezJune 11, 2009 4:32 PM

"It’s a pretty nasty little film and a damning indictment against the US penal system. "

It's actually based on events that happened in Germany.

MikeOutWestJune 12, 2009 9:06 AM

Yeah Scum is a really disturbing film. However, Uwe Boll has proven that, away from cheap video-game franchises, he can be quite a decent director. S'all I'm sayin.

whenin_tokyoJune 13, 2009 7:30 AM

Hey Mike, not THAT SCUM, www.scumthemovie.com-Anyway, Uwe Boll hasn't proven anything by his little foree in to "indie cinema", he's a hack. Plain & simple. If I ever see him, I'll BEG him for a match in or out of the ring, if I don't drop kick him first, He ain't worth a damn. I'll spill Texas blood to prove that fact. Get a hold of me @ Paul@scumthemovie.com. Anytime, anywhere. S'all I'm sayin.
