Yasmin Ahmad Hospitalised After Collapse

There are some here at ScreenAnarchy who are admirers of Yasmin Ahmad's work. She has even contributed a film review for us here before. So it came as quite a shock for us when we heard the news yesterday that the Malaysian director had collapsed during a meeting at a TV station in Kuala Lumpur, and was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for an emergency surgery.

She is reported to be in stable but critical condition. She had suffered a stroke during the meeting, and an in-house doctor and some others helped to apply CPR on her until the ambulance arrived.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

Sepet was filmed in my hometown, and I was blown away by the film. Yasmin Ahmad is by far the best filmmaker Malaysia currently has to offer, not to mention an advocate for women's rights and campaigner for anti-racism. I really hope that Malaysia is not robbed of this bright talent by the stroke.

Very sad news indeed.
Best wishes to her, and a speedy recovery (if applicable...).
