Website And Trailer For Bao Tran's Noir-Tinted BOOKIE
A very impressive look at a new short film from indie film maker Bao Tran here. Titled Bookie it is the noir-edged tale of an illegal bookie working in an R&B bar in 1963 and getting involved in a lover's dispute with his gangster boss and a beautiful waitress. The performances look uniformly solid throughout the trailer but the real star is undoubtedly Tran's hand behind the camera: this thing is shot in a sumptuous, sultry black and white. Very, very impressive.
