It was the ScreenAnarchy crew's favorite film at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival, it just landed six Oscar nominations and Guillermo Del Toro's stunning Pan's Labyrinth is now slated to receive its first English friendly DVD release in just four weeks time.  The Korean edition of the film includes English subtitles and is slated for a February 23rd release.  A limited edition set this release includes a second disc of bonus features - no word what language these will be in or if they will be subtitled if not in English to begin with - plus collectors books and other goodies.

I think I'll just wait for the UK DVD, I think its out in March sometime.

Great news.  I imagine some of the extras on that expanded dvd release will be Guillermo's sketchbook.  So what do you think?  Will it beat out "The Lives Of Others" for Best Foreign Film?  Or will they trade off and give Guillermo the Original Screenplay Oscar instead?

I will definitely wait until after the US DVD comes out and the carefully decide which release I'll get. The Korean LE is likely to be the prettiest in terms of packaging, though.

That's excellent! Now my parents, who dislike movie theaters, will be able to enjoy it!

Korean version indicates that language is English. Is this correct?

The UK release is a 2 disc edition 12 Mar.;=dvd

I'll probably pick this one up initially -- hopefully will be followed by an R1 3 disc DC like the Hellboy set.

I think the theatrical cut of the film is the director's cut. I haven't heard him talk about wanting a longer version because he felt that the story didn't come accross well enough. But hell I'd buy one if it was released. Maybe a Lord of the Rings-esque gift set with some cool sculptures.

By the way did anyone see the Cronos gift set that came with the Cronos device?

Also also lists a Cronos/Devil's Backbone/Pan's Labyrinth collection also out on March 12th:

Majorforce, that link also indicates the DVD comes out Feb. 16th while Yesasia has it a week after. One of them is wrong and therefore, I won't be getting this until I read a review of it online. It is very enticing though.

Joaquin, with all due respect, who gives a rat's @$$ if it comes out on the 16th or the 23rd?

The price is cheaper.  :-)

If anyone is still reading this thread, it appears as if Yes Asia have come through with some more details - this link.... confirms that the language is the original Spanish with English subtitles. It also has a photo of the 'folded out' packaging. Typical Korean high quality stuff - I'm glad I've cancelled my pre-order of the UK version in favour of this one already.....
