Little confusing information in broken English over at the Production I.G forum says that it was recently announed that Fukasakus' 'Eru No Ran' (working title), which starts working in the first half of next year (suggests this is the film after the one we have recently seen the teaser for?) will been written by Mamoru Oshii, and that he will infact also be helping out on the CGI work too.

Apparently Oshii has no desire to keep flogging away at future 'Ghost in the Shell' sequels so must be moving on to "different challenges", that is according to rumblimgs i've read elsewhere in the past week. The I.G forum post mentions and links to this Sponichi Japanese-text page.

i for one hopes Oshii takes on new challenges, although i love Innocence. You can feel that Oshii hasn't lived up to his full potential. Everytime i watch a film written by Oshii i'm truly intrigued, both patlabor movies with their Christian themes, Angel's Egg that's just plain weird.

Both GITS with their notion of human-ness and Avalon and Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer with it's notion of reality. And then i'm not even talking about Red Ridinghood in Jin-Roh. Or his live-action movies which i haven't had time to watch yet.

Mamoru Oshii is surely one of the more interesting "auteurs" of our time.

Wow ... this is great news ... I thought he said he was taking some time off entirely post-Innocence so I'm very glad to see his name popping up again so soon ... he's just a fascinating film maker ...

KENTA Fukasaku?... Dear lord maybe I will pass. After BR2 I don't think even an Oshii script could survive that looser.

And I consider Oshii a golden god of cinema.
