RIP David Bowie

RIP David Bowie
It's been a terrible 24 hours.

Exactly that many hours ago, I was sitting here at my desk writing about the death of Angus Scrimm. And I wrote about Lemmy a week ago, I think. And now I'm doing the same (something I'd never imagined I'd write) about one of the most iconic figures in music and pop culture --- David Bowie.

Within a span of about a half-hour, several outlets like The Hollywood Reporter have issued the news online. THR also reported the following:

David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief," read a statement posted on the artist's official social media accounts.

Even more final is the tweet that Bowie's son, director Duncan Jones sent out, reading:

Very sorry and sad to say it's true. I'll be offline for awhile. Love to all.

Bowie was 69 and has apparently lost the cancer battle he was fighting for the previous 18 months. He has just released his 25th album Blackstar, and just had a birthday on January 8th. I don't need to tell you how important he was to a great many people who were affected by his music. Songs like Diamond Dogs, China Girl, Modern Love, Space Oddity, Let's Dance, The Man Who Fell To Earth, I'm Afraid Of Americans, Heroes, Life On Mars, and so many more defined our lives, loves, heartaches, and celebrations.

It doesn't feel real. Not at all. He was still too young.

I've posted his video Lazarus, because I wish it wasn't true, that he'd rise up and tell us all that it was okay and he'd be making music for another 20 years.

I'm sorry, friends. This one really, really hurts.
